Sensei Iseke is a student of Sensei Doug Smith, 7th dan Uechi Ryu Karate, 4th dan Ryukyu Kobudo.
Sensei Kyle Iseke’s Uechi Ryu training began in 1991 under Sensei Tom Timmons at the Sturgeon Karate School located at Cardiff Hall in Sturgeon County, Alberta. Approximately two years later, Sensei Timmons moved to the west coast and Sensei Manuel DeSa took his place as the head instructor of the Sturgeon Karate School subsequently inheriting Iseke as a new student. Kyle spent the next 22 years learning from Sensei DeSa. During this time Kyle enjoyed success at tournaments all over the world and became an assistant instructor and later on an instructor at the DeSa School of Karate.
In 2005, Sensei Kyle opened his first karate dojo in Edmonton, Alberta. After starting a family and to ensure his students had a place to continue their training he transferred ownership to his senior student, Mike Varro. Sensei Iseke continued to train vigorously. Later, in 2015, Kyle left DeSa School of Karate for personal reasons.
At this time Sensei Kyle Iseke formally approached Sensei Doug Smith of Edmonton, Alberta about becoming a karate student and was accepted. He was now a member of the Uechi Ryu Hozonkai and Ryukyu Kobudo Hozonkai, located in Okinawa, Japan and previously headed by Masakazu Kinjo Sensei.
With a grown family and work/life balance Sensei Iseke started his second dojo: Iseke School of Karate in St. Albert, AB where it remains to this day.
